NBA assists leader Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers will miss at least two weeks with elbow and knee injuries sustained in Wednesday’s 119-113 loss to the host New York Knicks.

Haliburton underwent an MRI exam on Thursday and the Pacers said he was diagnosed with a left elbow sprain and mild left knee bone contusion. The team said it is awaiting further information from the scans and that Haliburton would be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks.

Haliburton was injured when he landed awkwardly in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game and his shoe got lodged under the feet of New York’s Isaiah Hartenstein. He had 15 points and seven assists before exiting.

The 22-year-old leads the Pacers with averages of 20.2 points and 10.2 assists. He also ranks third in the NBA with 1.8 steals per game.

Indiana (23-19) enjoyed a strong first half of the season and a lot of the credit went to Haliburton, who is in the running for an All-Star berth. The third-year pro was acquired from the Sacramento Kings at last season’s trade deadline.

The Pacers host the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
