Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner suffered an ankle sprain during pregame warmups Wednesday night and is expected to miss at least a week.
Turner said Thursday he stepped on someone’s foot, with two reports saying he landed on a ball boy under the rim.
“It’s a freak accident,” Turner told reporters Thursday.
Turner missed the season-opening loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday and is expected to miss the upcoming two games at home this weekend. He’s hoping to be back in action at some point of the Pacers’ five-game road trip next week.
Turner missed the second half of last season with a stress reaction in his left foot. His last game was Jan. 14, 2022, before the team ruled him out for the remainder of the season in late March.
He averaged 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in 42 starts in 2021-22.
Turner, 26, averages 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 431 career games (398 starts), all with the Pacers. He was selected No. 11 overall by the team in the 2015 draft.
