P.J. Haggerty scored 24 points to lead Kansas State to a 106-76 nonconference win over South Dakota Saturday in Manhattan, Kan.

Haggerty, the second-highest scorer in the nation, hit 10 of the 12 shots he took as the Wildcats (8-4) built an early lead and never let the Coyotes (7-7) back into the game.

The Wildcats scored 56 points in the paint and blocked nine shots, including four by Khamari McGriff. Kansas State scored 27 fastbreak points.

It was the second time the Wildcats have topped 100 points this season, and the first time since 2007-08 that they have scored more than 100 twice in the season.

McGriff also scored 10 points and had five rebounds.

David Castillo scored 16 points and had five rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Coyotes 44-28.

Isaac Bruns led the Coyotes with 19 points, while Cameron Fens had 17 and Jesse McIntosh added 15.

Haggerty dominated the first half with 16 points, hitting all eight shots he took as the Wildcats built a 57-34 lead.

The Wildcats scored 20 fastbreak points, had 13 assists and hit 68% of their shots (23-of-34). Kansas State hit 50% of their 3-pointers (7-of-14).

Kansas State outrebounded the Coyotes 25-13 in the first half.

The Wildcats used a 21-4 run early in the first half to build a 29-11 lead. The Coyotes would not get within 15 the rest of the half.

A Fens layup cut Kansas State’s lead to 19-9 with 14:32 left, but the Wildcats took over from there.

Castillo started the run with a layup and C.J. Jones followed with a 3-pointer for a 24-9 lead.

After a Fens dunk, Castillo scored on a layup and Abdi Bashir Jr. hit a 3-pointer for an 18-point lead with 11:50 left.

Haggerty gave Kansas State its first 20-point lead at 35-15 with a layup with 9:34 left.

He extended the lead to 42-20 with another layup with 7:02 left and then finished a 9-0 run with a layup to give Kansas State a 44-20 lead with 6:11 to go in the first half.
