The Hangzhou Spark and Seoul Infernal swept their respective grand finals in the Overwatch League East Spring Stage knockout stage on Sunday, claiming berths in the Midseason Madness tournament.
In Bracket 1, the Spark defeated the Dreamers, a Contenders team, 4-0, in the best-of-seven series with these map wins: 2-1 on Oasis, 3-1 on King’s Row, 2-1 on Rialto and 1-0 on Colosseo.
Yangjie “shy” Zheng of China was the Most Valuable Player for the Spark, who paid tribute to their opponents on Twitter after the match.
“You guys are more than just dreamers. You made your dreams come true by going this far,” the team posted.
In Bracket 2, the Infernal beat Dallas for the second time in the knockout stage with their 4-0 win. The Infernal started with a 2-0 triumph on Ilios, followed by 2-1 victories on Blizzard World and Shambali Monastery, and finished off the match 1-0 on Colosseo.
Korean Hyun-woo “ZEST” Kim was the MVP.
The $900,000 Midseason Madness tournament will be played June 16-18 in Goyang, South Korea. The winner of the six-team event will receive $500,000.
So far, five teams have qualified, with the Atlanta Reign, Houston Outlaws and Boston Uprising also in. The Los Angeles Gladiators, Florida Mayhem and Washington Justice are still contending for the one spot remaining in the Overwatch League West knockout stage.
