Team BDS won the final three maps to beat G2 Stride 4-2 in the grand final and win the Rocket League Championship Series World Championship on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas.
With the win, BDS pocketed $300,000. G2 took home $150,000.
The win comes less than three weeks after BDS won the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. G2 entered the event having won the RLC’s second major in June and finished second at the first major in March.
G2 opened the championship match with a 5-0 win on Mannfield (Night). BDS responded with a 1-0 win in overtime on DFH Stadium to even the match. G2 again took the lead with a 1-0 win on DFH Stadium, at which point BDS called a timeout.
It was all BDS from there, as the squad won 4-1 on Utopia Coliseum (Dusk), 5-2 on AquaDome (Salty Shallows) and 3-2 on Neo Tokyo.
It was hardly an easy path to the grand final for G2, which went the distance in both of its other matches Sunday to get to the championship game. In the lower-bracket quarterfinals, G2 beat Furia 4-3 to advance to the semifinals, then took down Karmine Corp 4-3 to get to the final.
On the other side of the bracket, Team Falcons beat Oxygen Esports 4-2 in the lower-bracket quarters then fell to BDS 4-3 in the semis. In that match, BDS won the first three maps but Falcons staved off elimination three times to even it at 3-3. BDS edge Falcons 2-1 on Champions Field to win the match.
