OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has filed a defamation lawsuit against his sister, Ann Altman, following her allegations of childhood sexual abuse. The legal dispute, reported by CNN, and other outlets centers on claims made by Ann Altman in January, where she accused her brother of abusing and manipulating her during their upbringing in Missouri between the late 1990s and early 2000s.
In a court filing submitted Friday, Sam Altman’s legal team denied the allegations as “categorically false,” asserting that Ann’s statements were designed to “tarnish his reputation” and inflict “severe emotional distress.” The filing further alleges that Ann Altman pursued legal action to pressure her brother into providing “unrestricted financial support,” characterizing her lawsuit as a misuse of the judicial system.
Ann Altman’s claims, which have not been independently verified, describe a decade-long pattern of abuse during their childhood. Sam Altman, a prominent figure in the tech industry, has publicly denied the accusations, calling them “deeply hurtful and untrue.”
The case has drawn significant attention due to Sam Altman’s high-profile role at OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. Legal experts cited by CWEB note that defamation suits involving familial disputes often hinge on evidence of malicious intent or provable falsehoods.
“All of these claims are utterly untrue. The situation causes immense pain to our entire family,” the statement, posted on X Tuesday by Sam Altman.
