President Joe Biden issued an order to shoot down an object that was flying across Alaskan territory on Friday, according to National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby. He said that the item was flying at 40,000 feet and presented a plausible threat to the security of commercial aircraft.
Kirby said that the military successfully downed the object over the currently frozen territorial seas of the United States.
‘So, I can confirm that the Department of Defense was tracking a high-altitude object over Alaska airspace in the last 24 hours,’ he said at Friday’s briefing. ‘The object was flying at 40,000 feet and posed a reasonable threat to the safety of civilian flight.’
