The judge who sentenced Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse, to life in prison without the possibility of parole said she was cruel, cunning, and callous and acted with “malevolence bordering sadism.” She was found guilty of murdering seven babies while in charge of them and attempting to kill six more at a hospital in northern England.
While employed as a nurse in the neonatal section of the Countess of Chester Hospital in northern England between 2015 and 2016, the 33-year-old killed the infants by overfeeding them with milk, poisoning them with insulin, or injecting them with air.
The families of the victims were enraged by Letby’s absence, which is permitted in British courts during sentencing; they wanted her to hear testimonies about the destruction her acts had created.
EXCLUSIVE: The doctor who helped catch Britain’s worst baby killer.
Dr Ravi Jayaram spent two years pleading with hospital managers to investigate Lucy Letby.
Instead, they made him apologise and attend mediation with her.

“There was a deep malevolence bordering on sadism in your actions,” Judge Goss said, addressing the absent defendant. “During the course of this trial, you have coldly denied any responsibility for your wrongdoing. You have no remorse. There are no mitigating factors.”
