Jamyron Keller scored 14 points to lead six players in double figures, helping Oklahoma State post an 86-73 victory over Arizona State on Sunday in Stillwater, Okla.
Keller scored 11 in the first half, making 4-of-5 attempts from the field, including all three attempts from long range. Arturo Dean aided Keller’s cause with 10 points and a game-high six assists, while Pat Sumenick, Robert Jennings, Khalil Brantley and Brandon Newman each added 10 points.
In large part because of Keller’s hot hand, Oklahoma State (12-11, 4-8 Big 12) controlled the game from the outset. The Cowboys opened the game with an 11-2 run and had an answer each time Arizona State (12-11, 3-9) rallied in the first half, leading by as many as 15.
In the second half, Oklahoma State extended its lead to 17 with 15:21 remaining after Dean forced a turnover and finished the lay-in. Dean’s bakset punctuated a 7-0 run that extended a 10-point lead to 17. Oklahoma State led by as many as 19, though Arizona State used a 15-4 run to cut the Cowboys’ lead to eight with 10 minutes remaining.
Arizona State continued to threaten, but that threat was mostly mitigated with a six-point solo run by Sumenick that put the Cowboys back up 13 with four minutes remaining.
The Sun Devils were down two starters, as leading scorer BJ Freeman and Adam Miller sat out due to reported suspensions. Star freshman Jayden Quaintance left after playing just nine minutes in the first half with a left ankle injury, per ESPN.
Alston Mason led the Sun Devils with 25 points on 7-of-20 shooting, making 3-of-7 attempts from 3-point range. Joson Sannon filled Freeman’s slot in the starting lineup and chipped in 17 points on 5-of-20 shooting.
Oklahoma State shot 28 of 64 (43.8 percent) from the field and made 8-of-26 attempts (30.8 percent) from long range. Arizona State made 21 of 63 attempts overall (33.3 percent), finishing 9 of 31 (29 percent) from 3-point range.
