A famous auto shop owner in Oakland was gunned down in broad daylight this month. The 68-year-old man was close to retirement before he was shot. He had been part of the neighborhood since the 1990s. He was hit and killed in his shop, and the motive for his shooting remains unknown. No arrests have been made yet.
Aristeo Zambrano ran the auto shop for more than three decades. He remained a pillar in the neighborhood, although his family wanted him to move out as the area had become crime-ridden and unsafe.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Zambrano was a leader and union representative with the UFW. He had immigrated from Mexico in the seventies, worked hard, and opened his shop, Bay City Alternators.
The SF Chronicle said that Zambrano’s death was the tenth one in the year in Oakland. After his death, two more homicides have been reported in the Californian city.
His daughter Maria Ayala told the outlet, “It’s not fair that he worked so hard all his life, he never hurt anyone.”
Violent crime has been rising in Alameda County. It increased by nearly 20 percent last year compared to corruption in 2019.
Popular outlets and stores have closed in the neighborhood, including In-N-Out Burger restaurants. The popular diner said the Oakland closure was its first one despite the restaurant’s good sales. The franchise was closed, keeping in mind the security of its staff and customers.

Zambrano leaves behind three daughters and six grandchildren.
