As investigations into the financial fraud conducted by the Trump Organization continue, Attorney General of New York, Letitia James is taking legal action to force Donald Trump’s children–Ivanka Trump and Donald Jr. to cooperate with the probe against the financial dealings of the Trump Organization.
On Tuesday night, James filed a motion asking for a court order that would compel three family members–Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump to appear at the Attorney General’s office and provide sworn testimonies. Earlier, subpoenas had been sent to them but all three of them filed motions to quash the interviews.
Letitia James tweeted that no one in the nation could “pick and choose if and how the law applies to them.” She also said that the Trumps had been closely involved in some of the transactions that were under investigation.
According to the Attorney General, the Trump Organization had used “fraudulent and misleading asset evaluations” on many of their properties in order to obtain financial benefits. These benefits included loans, insurance coverage as well as tax deductions and these practices had continued for years.
Last month, former president Trump had sued her in a bid to stop or delay the investigations. The case filed against her said that James was in violation of the civil rights of both Trump and the Trump Organization. However, this did not deter her as she subpoenaed both Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr., in the first week of the first month of this year.
On her tweet on January 19, NY AG James verified account also said that they would “not be deterred” in their efforts to continue investigating the Trump Organization and that they would “uncover the facts, and pursue justice, no matter how many roadblocks Mr. Trump and his family throw” in their way.
Although Trump’s legal team is considered to be formidable as experienced lawyers in the team have defended alleged mobsters and more, according to a report in The Daily Beast, the Attorneys General’s office refuses to back down and its tweet on Wednesday, January 19 ended stating: “No one is above the law.”
