Reilyn Turner scored a goal and also drew a penalty to lead the host Portland Thorns to a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Reign in the Cascadia derby on Sunday afternoon.
Sam Coffey, Reyna Reyes and Pietra Tordin also scored goals for Portland (7-4-4, 25 points), which leapfrogged the Reign into fifth place with the win. Mackenzie Arnold made one save for the Thorns, who extended their home unbeaten streak to a franchise-record 10-matches (7-0-3).
Jess Fishlock had a goal and an assist and Emeri Adames scored for Seattle (7-5-3, 24 points), which had a four-match unbeaten streak (3-0-1) snapped. Claudia Dickey finished with seven saves.
Adames gave Seattle a 1-0 lead in the third minute with her fifth goal, a left-footed shot into the right corner off a through pass from Fishlock.
Portland tied it, 1-1, in 18th minute when Turner was knocked down by Jordyn Bugg while slashing in from the left side of the box for a penalty. Coffey then drilled a right-footed penalty shot into the bottom left corner of the net for her second goal.
The Thorns took a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute on Turner’s fifth goal when she knocked in a bouncing pass from Jessie Fleming from the right edge of the six-yard box inside the far-left post.
Reyes extended the lead to 3-1 in the 55th minute with a header in the middle of the box off a deflected cross by Olivia Moultrie.
Fishlock cut the lead to 3-2 in the 64th minute when she headed in a cross from Madison Curry but Tordin put Portland back up two goals 61 seconds later on the ensuing kickoff with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner off a through pass from Hina Sugita.
