The Washington Spirit on Friday re-signed goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart to a one-year contract.
An original NWSL player, the 42-year-old Barnhart played for FC Kansas City, Utah Royals FC and Kansas City NWSL — which became the Current — before joining the Spirit in 2022. In seven total matches for Washington, Barnhart has 26 saves in 541 minutes.
Barnhart, 42, holds the NWSL record with 52 career clean sheets in 141 total appearances. She has also spent time in the WPSL, the WUSA and the WPS leagues before the inception of the NWSL.
“I’m excited to be back for my 12th season in this league — a league I have seen grow so much over the years,” the Stanford product said in a release. “I am proud to be at a club with an owner like Michele (Kang), who has the vision and drive to not only grow our club but the women’s game around the world. I can’t wait to get back on the field with my teammates and GK crew, to work hard, improve and bring my best to this team each and every day.”
