Paige Monaghan scored in second-half stoppage time to propel the Utah Royals to a 1-1 draw with the North Carolina Courage on Saturday night at Cary, N.C.
The Courage’s Jaedyn Shaw scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute, but North Carolina conceded the tying goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
The Courage (5-7-7, 22 points) have gone six consecutive matches (0-3-3) without a victory.
Utah (2-11-6, 12 points), which has draws in three of its last four matches, received five saves from goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn.
Marisa Bova made four saves for the Courage.
Monaghan’s second goal of the season came following Utah’s 10th corner kick of the match. She has scored in back-to-back matches.
It was Shaw’s third goal of the season and her second in three matches. The penalty kick came when Utah’s Kaleigh Riehl was called for a foul in the penalty area. She also was assessed a yellow card.
Utah held a 23-14 edge in shot attempts. North Carolina had only one corner kick.
Play was suspended for about 40 minutes late in the first half because of lightning.
