Angel City Football Club fired founding coach Freya Coombe on Thursday.

Assistant coach Becki Tweed will take over the helm of the National Women’s Soccer League club on an interim basis.

Angel City FC, a 2022 expansion club, is 2-6-3 and in 11th place in the 12-team league and have not won a match since May 7. They finished 8-9-5 in their inaugural season.

“Freya assumed the role of leading an expansion club with some of the most ambitious goals in all of sports and embraced this immense responsibility head on with strength, patience and humility,” general manager Angela Hucles Mangano said in a club statement. “She established a strong culture and work ethic that helped build the foundation on which we will grow. After considerable deliberation and evaluation of where we are in our season, we have made the difficult decision to make a change. We sincerely wish Freya all the best, and she will forever hold an indelible place in Angel City’s history.”

Tweed joined Angel City FC in January after two years on the coaching staff of NJ/NY Gotham FC, where Coombe was the coach before resigning to join Angel City.
