Milan Momcilovic scored 17 points and made 4 of 7 attempts from beyond the arc, and No. 9 Iowa State posted an 84-67 win over No. 22 Arizona in a Big 12 Conference matchup Saturday night in Ames, Iowa.
Tamin Lipsey finished with 15 points and eight assists for Iowa State (22-7, 12-6), which snapped a two-game skid. Curtis Jones and Nate Heise scored 12 points apiece.
Jaden Bradley scored 18 points to lead Arizona (19-10, 13-5). K.J. Lewis scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Caleb Love finished with 10 points, missing 13 of 15 shots from the field.
Iowa State shot 50 percent (27 of 54) from the field and 52.4 percent (11 of 21) from 3-point range. Arizona shot just 33.3 percent (19 of 57) overall and 18.2 percent (4 of 22) from beyond the arc.
The Cyclones increased their lead to 24 midway through the second half. Lipsey stole the ball and pushed it to Brandton Chatfield, who dished it to Jones for a layup for a 62-38 lead with 12:38 remaining.
Arizona went on an 8-0 run to pull within 67-53 with 7:18 remaining. Trey Townsend made a jump shot, Lewis had two layups and Bradley made a pair of free throws.
The Wildcats pulled within 10 when Carter Bryant notched a steal and made a jump shot on the other end of the court with 3:22 remaining. The sequence cut Iowa State’s lead to 71-61.
The Cyclones finished the game on a 6-0 run over the final 1:41.
Iowa State led 43-30 at the half.
The Cyclones jumped to a 23-11 advantage with 8:41 left in the first half. Momcilovic finished the early run with a 3-pointer off an assist from Lipsey.
Momcilovic knocked down two more 3-pointers in the next two minutes to increase Iowa State’s advantage to 32-17.
Arizona chipped away at the deficit with a 6-0 run late in the half. Bryant and Henri Veesaar made two free throws apiece and Lewis finished it with a layup.
