Mark Mitchell scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures as No. 9 Duke took control in the second half to defeat Boston College 80-65 on Saturday afternoon at Durham, N.C.

Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach each had 16 points, Jared McCain collected 11 points and 10 rebounds and Tyrese Proctor posted 10 points for Duke (18-5, 9-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), which has won two in a row at home since last Saturday’s loss at North Carolina.

Mason Madsen scored 15 points, Claudell Harris Jr. added 13 points, Devin McGlockton posted 11 points and Jaeden Zackery had 10 points for the Eagles (13-10, 4-8), who shot 40.7 percent from the field and made 5 of 26 3-pointers.

Boston College leading scorer Quinten Post was limited to eight points, well under his scoring average entering the contest (16.4 points per game).

Duke finally built a double-digit lead in the second half. Mitchell had five straight points as the margin swelled to 56-43.

The Blue Devils made five of their first 11 second-half shots from 3-point range. That made up for limited free-throw opportunities, with the Blue Devils at 2 of 5 on foul shots with less than eight minutes to play. They finished 10 of 13 for the game.

Boston College went up 28-27 with 4:47 remaining in the first half on consecutive 3-pointers from Harris for its first lead since the opening two-plus minutes of the game. Duke answered with a 7-0 spurt.

The Blue Devils led 36-32 at halftime while shooting 4 of 16 from 3-point range. Boston College didn’t score on its first four possessions of the second half and fell into a 43-32 hole.

Five of Boston College’s first six shots of the game were from 3-point range. Madsen had nine of the team’s first 11 points.

The Eagles were aiming for their fifth true road win of the season, something they haven’t accomplished in 13 years. Boston College is winless in 14 all-time games at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
