Elliot Cadeau had 18 points and four assists as No. 2 Michigan overwhelmed Villanova 89-61 in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Tuesday night.

Michigan (9-0) came up just two points shy of a fifth consecutive victory by a margin of 30 or more points. The Wolverines, who led by 30 at halftime, had eight players with seven or more points in their latest thrashing.

Aday Mara supplied 11 points and eight rebounds and Trey McKenney contributed 10 points with six rebounds. Yaxel Lendeborg and Roddy Gayle Jr. added nine points apiece.

Michigan outscored Villanova 46-10 in the paint and had 22 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.

Devin Askew led the Wildcats (7-2), who had their seven-game winning streak snapped, with 18 points. Christian Jeffrey added 12 points.

Michigan held a three-point lead after the first five minutes, then extended it to 14 with an 11-0 run. Cadeau got it started with a jumper. Morez Johnson then converted a layup off a Lendeborg steal.

Nimari Burnett hit a 3-pointer before Lendeborg made another steal and dunked on the fastbreak. Gayle finished it off with a layup after a Burnett offensive rebound.

A 3-pointer and a four-point play by Askew allowed the Wildcats to pull within eight at 24-16. Michigan answered with a 15-0 outburst.

A handful of Wolverines scored during that span. Gayle got the run going with a jumper and L.J. Cason knocked down a jumper and layup. Will Tschetter finished it off with a four-point possession after a Villanova turnover.

Cadeau scored in the paint with two minutes left in the half to push the lead to 48-23. He also had the last points of the half — a 3-pointer from the wing — to give the Wolverines a 53-23 halftime advantage.

Cadeau pushed the lead past 30 two minutes into the second half with another 3-pointer.
