In a shooting at a petrol station in Columbus, Georgia, nine boys and girls under the age of 18 were hurt, including a 5-year-old kid who was shot while there with a family member on Friday night, according to investigators.
According to Columbus Police Chief Freddie Blackmon at a news conference on Saturday, at 10 o’clock, several young people at a neighboring party got into a fight and moved over to the Shell gas station’s parking lot.

The victims, whose names were withheld, were between the ages of 5 and 17. According to authorities, seven boys and two girls suffered injuries. At least four patients have left the hospitals where they were being treated as of Saturday afternoon, according to Blackmon. Blackmon said that the youngest victim was a 5-year-old boy and that the oldest victim was a 17-year-old.
It is not known how the argument started. Who started the shooting, or how many shots were fired, is also not known. No evidence suggested that the injured 5-year-old was a target, Blackmon said. He also noted that while some of the witnesses who were present at the scene are working with the police, some are not.
Blackmon urged parents to ask their kids if they had any knowledge about the incident and to provide it to the authorities. The presence of any of the youngsters’ parents at the gas station at the time of the shooting is unknown, he added. Given the ages of the individuals involved, no one has been named and no charges have been announced as of Saturday afternoon.

Given the age and number of children affected, Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson described the shooting as “especially horrible and particularly frightening.”
Columbus is situated about 85 miles east of Montgomery, Alabama, and about 110 miles southwest of Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 162 homicides have been probed by authorities this year, which is a record high since 1996. A total of 161 were recorded in 2018, up from 157 in 2020 and 99 in 2019.
