Tage Thompson had two goals and an assist in the host Buffalo Sabres’ 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

Jason Zucker, defenseman Bowen Byram and Jack Quinn also scored for Buffalo, which won its third straight game. Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin had three assists and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 22 saves.

Lucas Raymond had a goal and an assist and Alex DeBrincat and Michael Rasmussen added goals for Detroit, which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Defenseman Moritz Seider had two assists and Alex Lyon stopped 34 shots.

Thompson continued his success against the Red Wings. He has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 16 games in his career facing Detroit.

Byram’s goal broke a 3-3 tie with 4:06 remaining in the second period. Coming off a faceoff, Byram’s shot from the top of the left circle deflected in off Lyon and the leg of Red Wings’ defenseman Jeff Petry, who was battling in front of the net. Quinn added an empty-net goal with 48 seconds left.

Raymond’s first career short-handed goal with 8:58 left in the middle period tied it 3-3 for the Red Wings. It came on a two-on-one rush, with Raymond beating Luukkonen from the right circle.

Thompson’s second goal of the game, 3:20 into the second, gave Buffalo a 3-1 advantage. He scored on a one-time shot from the inside edge of the right circle.

But Rasmussen’s goal 31 seconds later made it a one-goal game again as he backhanded in a loose puck from the bottom of the right circle.

Buffalo led 2-1 after the first period.

The Sabres jumped out to a 2-0 lead a dozen minutes into the game. Zucker’s power-play goal 4:04 into the game made it 1-0. It was Buffalo’s first man-advantage goal of the season on its 23rd opportunity. Thompson capitalized on a turnover to make it 2-0 at the 12-minute mark.

DeBrincat put the Red Wings on the board with 5:17 left in the period.
