Roope Hintz had two goals and an assist and the visiting Dallas Stars scored four unanswered goals in the second period, then held off the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Tuesday night.
Jamie Benn, Mason Marchment and Esa Lindell also scored for Dallas, while Wyatt Johnston added three assists. Jake Oettinger made 30 saves.
Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat each had a goal and an assist for the Wings. David Perron and J.T. Compher also scored.
Detroit’s starting goaltender Alex Lyon was removed after the second period. Lyon and James Reimer combined for 33 saves.
All of the goals in the first period came on power plays.
Benn scored his ninth goal of the season when he tapped in a rebound of a Jason Robertson shot.
Perron scored his 10th goal of the season with a shot from the left side.
DeBrincat notched his first goal in 11 games and 18th of the season at 16:53 of the period. DeBrincat’s shot went over Oettinger’s left shoulder.
Dallas peppered Lyon with 25 shots on goal during its second-period outburst.
The Stars knotted the score 22 seconds into the second period. Marchment scored from the left side off a feed from Matt Duchene.
Hintz fired in his first goal of the game at 4:35 of the period. Detroit forward Klim Kostin tried to clear the puck from in front of his net. Instead, Hintz swiped it off his stick and fired the puck through Lyon’s legs.
Lindell made it 4-2 when he knocked in a rebound. Lyon saved a shot by Johnston but couldn’t recover in time to stop Lindell’s fourth goal of the season. Hintz had the second assist.
Hintz took advantage of a Wings turnover in their zone to score his team-high 22nd goal at 15:12 of the period. He ripped a shot from the left circle off a feed by Johnston.
Larkin stretched his point streak to nine games when he scored from the slot with 8:32 remaining.
After Reimer was pulled for an extra skater, Compher knocked in a rebound of a DeBrincat shot with 3:14 left.
