Jake Oettinger made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Dallas Stars beat the visiting Washington Capitals 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Tyler Seguin scored in the second period for the Stars, who have won three straight. Oettinger logged his 13th career shutout as he improved to 6-0-0 with two shutouts in his career against Washington.

Logan Thompson made 18 saves for the Capitals, who have scored a total of one goal while losing their past two games after winning six of the previous seven. Thompson has allowed two goals or less in each of his seven starts this season.

Washington captain Alex Ovechkin had two shots on goal but remains one goal away from 900 for his NHL career. The league’s all-time leading goal-scorer has two tallies on the season.

The Stars have won 10 of their past 13 games against the Capitals dating back to Nov. 3, 2018.

Washington took its first road loss after starting the season with three away wins.

Seguin put the Stars on top 43 seconds into the middle period. Seguin took a pass in the left circle from Miro Heiskanen, and his centering feed deflected in off the stick of Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary during a power play.

The Stars went 1-for-4 on the power play; the Capitals finished 0-for-3.

Dallas had only 10 shots on goal over the final two periods and went more than 23 minutes without a shot on goal in a span beginning in the second period and ending in the third.

Washington’s Aliaksei Protas hit the post on short-handed odd-man rush midway through the third period.

Thompson kept the deficit at one when he pinned a loose puck that got behind him against the right post with 11:03 remaining.

Oettinger made a strong save, stopping Tom Wilson’s 5-hole attempt in front during a power play with 4:02 remaining.
