The sister of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau has rescheduled her wedding date.
The hockey-playing brothers were killed the night before Katie Gaudreau’s scheduled Aug. 30 wedding when they were out for a bike ride and hit by a suspected drunk driver near the family’s New Jersey home.
The brothers were teammates at Boston College, and Johnny later went to play for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Katie and fiance Devin Joyce now are scheduled to marry July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, according to their wedding registry.
Following the deaths of Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, the wedding was postponed. Both men were to be groomsmen.
“That day,” Katie posted to Instagram on Sept. 5.
“Right in the middle of getting ready for the best day of my life, the unthinkable happens that will change my life forever. I remember a week ago being in the hotel sitting with family and texting Devin about how we forgot to practice our dip. To think that was our biggest worry at this moment when in just a split second and a phone call later our lives would forever change.”
In September, a judge in Salem County, N.J., ruled Sean M. Higgins, accused of killing the men, will remain in jail until his trial. Higgins has been charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide.
