Shayne Gostisbehere scored the go-ahead goal on a power play at 18:27 of the third period and the visiting Arizona Coyotes defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 Monday night.

The Maple Leafs thought they had tied the game at 19:21, but it was disallowed after video review because of an illegal hand pass.

Nick Ritchie, Christian Fischer and Gostisbehere each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, who won for the first time in three games this season, all on the road. Lawson Crouse added an empty-net goal.

William Nylander and Mitchell Marner scored for the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs goaltender Erik Kallgren, making his first start of the season, stopped 15 shots.

Karel Vejmelka made 26 saves for the Coyotes.

Ritchie, a former Maple Leaf, scored on a power play from the slot at 19:34 of the first period. It was Ritchie’s third goal of the season, all with the man advantage. Gostisbehere and J.J. Moser had assists. Calle Jarnkrok was off for interference.

Toronto had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal in the first period.

Nick Bjugstad won the battle for possession behind the Toronto goal and worked the puck to Fischer, who knocked it in at 8:30 of the second period.

The Maple Leafs had their third power play of the game during the second period and did not have a shot on goal. They did not have a shot on goal in their two-man advantage situations in the first period, either.

Each team had 13 shots on goal after two periods.

Toronto defenseman Jake Muzzin left the game during the second period with a neck injury and did not return.

Nylander scored his third goal of the season at 12:54 of the third period from close range in Toronto’s fifth power play of the game. John Tavares earned his 900th career point with an assist. Morgan Rielly also had an assist. Jack McBain was off for hooking.

Marner pounced on an Arizona turnover to tie the game at 13:18 of the third.

Gostisbehere’s goal came with Jarnkrok off for interference.

Crouse scored into an empty net at 19:49.
