The New York Rangers acquired defenseman Chad Ruhwedel from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday for a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Also on Friday, the Rangers acquired Nic Petan from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for fellow forward Turner Elson.
Ruhwedel, 33, had one goal and three assists in 47 games with the Penguins this season.
Ruhwedel began his career with the Buffalo Sabres, signing as an undrafted free agent in April 2013, and he played there until signing with the Penguins before the 2016-17 season. He won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh that season.
He has appeared in 359 regular-season games between the Penguins and Sabres, recording 49 points (13 goals, 36 assists).
With the trade, the Penguins now have eight picks in the 2027 draft.
Petan, 28, has split this season with both Minnesota and Iowa of the American Hockey League. He has two assists in six games with the NHL’s Wild and 40 points (12 goals, 28 assists) with the AHL’s Wild.
Petan has totaled 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) in 170 career games with the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Wild.
Elson, 31, had one assist in three career NHL games with the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings. He has 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 38 games this season with Hartford of the AHL.
