Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck scored in the opening two rounds of the shootout Saturday afternoon as the host New York Rangers rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Panarin scored in the opening round of the shootout when he slipped a backhander by goalie Samuel Ersson. Trocheck scored on a wrist shot from close range that went over Ersson’s stick.

New York goalie Igor Shesterkin stopped Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecy in the shootout after helping the Rangers kill two power plays in overtime.

The Rangers improved to 5-10-3 at home by scoring twice in the final 11 minutes of the third after allowing four goals in the second.

Trocheck backhanded in his own rebound 9:13 into the third and Mika Zibanejad tied it during a power play by getting a one-timer to get under Ersson’s pad with 2:34 left.

Panarin also scored New York’s first two goals after sitting out Thursday’s game with an illness.

The Flyers fell to 10-0-1 when carrying a lead into the third period after scoring four times in the second.

Travis Sanheim and Owen Tippett scored 23 seconds apart to put the Flyers ahead. Zegras scored Philadelphia’s second power-play goal and Rodrigo Abols added a short-handed goal when the Flyers took control in a span of 7:56 to turn a one-goal deficit into a 4-2 lead.

Rookie Denver Barkey collected assists on Philadelphia’s first two goals after being called up from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

Shesterkin stopped 28 shots while Ersson made 23 saves.

During an interference penalty to Will Cuylle, Sanheim took a pass from Barkey, walked into the slot and his shot from between the circles eluded Shesterkin with 13:18 left.

Barkey fed Tippett for a shot from the top of the zone that went by Shesterkin’s stick with 12:55 left to put Philadelphia up 2-1.

Three seconds into a slashing penalty on Panarin, Zegras made it 3-1 by blasting a one-timer by Shesterkin from the top of the slot.

Panarin made it a one-goal game with 7:37 left by ripping a shot over Ersson’s right arm after stealing the puck from Tippett in the neutral zone. The Flyers took a 4-2 lead when Abols jammed in a loose puck under Shesterkin on an odd-man rush with 5:24 left for Philadelphia’s first short-handed goal this season.
