The Florida Panthers signed veteran forward Eric Staal to a one-year contract on Friday.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, however ESPN reported it was a $750,000 deal.
The soon-to-be 38-year-old (Oct. 29) and former Stanley Cup winner joins his sixth NHL franchise.
“Eric is an experienced leader in this league and a tremendous competitor,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said. “His professionalism and veteran mindset will add value to our locker room on and off the ice.”
Staal’s younger brother, Marc, is in his first season with the Panthers.
Eric Staal ranks seventh among active players with 1,034 points (441 goals, 593 assists) in 1,293 games with the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens.
Carolina drafted him No. 2 overall in 2003 and he won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.
