Owen Tippett had three goals for his second career hat trick and his first of the season, Matvei Michkov had two goals and an assist, and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Colorado Avalanche 7-3 in Denver on Friday night.

Tippett added an assist for his second four-point game of the season for Philadelphia, which finished 2-0-1 on its three-game road trip. Denver Barkey had a goal and an assist, Bobby Brink also scored and Samuel Ersson turned away 32 shots for the Flyers.

With members of the 2001 Stanley Cup championship team in attendance, Colorado lost its second straight and finished 3-2-2 on its seven-game homestand after winning the first two. The Avalanche suffered their first two home losses in regulation in the past four games.

Parker Kelly, Victor Olofsson and Cale Makar had goals, Nathan MacKinnon contributed two assists and Mackenzie Blackwood made 13 saves.

Tippett put Philadelphia ahead for good 56 seconds into the third period with his second goal of the game, Michkov made it 5-3 just 1:04 later and Tippett scored a short-handed goal at 10:24, his 18th of the season, to complete his hat trick.

Michkov scored into an empty net at 16:53.

Colorado opened the game outshooting the Flyers 14-1 but Tippet made it 1-0 on Philadelphia’s second shot when he got his own rebound and wristed the puck by Blackwood at 15:02 of the first period.

The Flyers went on the power play at 17:41 and Barkey cashed it in with his goal at 18:57.

The Avalanche responded in the second period. Kelly picked up a rebound and scored on a backhander at 7:17, his career-best 10th goal of the season, and Olofsson tied it at 10:29 with a one-timer from the top of the left circle at 10:29.

Philadelphia answered 32 seconds later when Brink grabbed a loose puck in front of Blackwood and lofted it in to make it 3-2. Makar’s wrister from the right circle at 12:12 evened the score heading into the third period.
