NHL News: NHL roundup: Unlikely hero lifts Red Wings to 5th straight win

Emmitt Finnie scored the first two goals of his NHL career and added an assist as the host Detroit Red Wings stretched their winning streak to five games with a 4-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday afternoon.

Dylan Larkin scored the Red Wings’ two other goals and contributed two assists. Larkin has at least one point in all of Detroit’s six games. John Gibson made 16 saves and was also credited with an assist on Larkin’s second goal.

Noah Philp and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Oilers. Stuart Skinner stopped 20 shots. Veteran Detroit forward Patrick Kane missed the game due to an upper-body injury.

The Oilers, who lost to New Jersey 5-3 on Saturday afternoon, had just three shots on goal in the first period. However, their defense kept the game scoreless by blocking a dozen shots.

Mammoth 3, Bruins 2

Dylan Guenther’s goal with 9:23 left in the third period propelled host Utah to another win in Salt Lake City, this time against visiting Boston.

Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist, Logan Cooley also scored and Nick Schmaltz dished out two assists for Utah, which has won three straight games and now sits 3-0-0 at home this season. Vitek Vanecek backstopped the Mammoth with 24 saves, including 12 in the second period alone.

David Pastrnak scored both Boston goals, tying him with Ray Bourque for sixth on the franchise’s all-time goals list (395). Joonas Korpisalo made 24 stops for the Bruins.

Canucks 4, Capitals 3

Defenseman Tyler Myers recorded a goal and an assist and Vancouver hung on for a win over host Washington.

Elias Pettersson, Kiefer Sherwood and Teddy Blueger also scored for the Canucks, who led 4-0 less than five minutes into the second period. Conor Garland added a pair of assists and Thatcher Demko made 28 saves.

Ryan Leonard and defensemen Jakob Chychrun and John Carlson got the goals for the Capitals, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Tom Wilson and Dylan Strome each had two assists and Charlie Lindgren stopped 20 shots.

Blackhawks 2, Ducks 1 (OT)

Ryan Donato scored at 2:58 of overtime and added an assist while Spencer Knight made 38 saves to lift host Chicago past Anaheim.

Donato scored off Connor Bedard’s feed from behind the net as Bedard corralled the rebound after Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal stopped his shot from the right circle. The Blackhawks responded after Anaheim’s Mason McTavish tied the game with a power-play goal with 35.8 seconds left, scoring on a wrist shot from the low left circle off a pass from Troy Terry.

Chicago’s Frank Nazar netted the game’s first goal at 9:43 of the third period, tapping a rebound past Dostal after Wyatt Kaiser rang a shot off the post. Dostal stopped 28 shots for Anaheim, which has lost two straight.
