Vegas forward Phil Kessel got an assist while playing in his NHL-record-tying 989th consecutive game as the Golden Knights defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 on Monday night in Las Vegas.
Nicolas Roy, Chandler Stephenson and Michael Amadio scored for Vegas, and goaltender Logan Thompson made 23 saves.
William Nylander tallied for Toronto, and Ilya Samsonov stopped 30 of 33 shots.
Kessel tied the mark set this spring by now-retired defenseman Keith Yandle. He would become the sole record-holder if he takes the ice on Tuesday in the Golden Knights’ road game against the San Jose Sharks.

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists and Edmonton scored three times during a span of 4 1/2 minutes in the second period to rally for a win over visiting Pittsburgh.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane and Zach Hyman each had a goal and assist while Tyson Barrie and Ryan McLeod also scored for the Oilers, who got 32 saves from Jack Campbell.
Rickard Rakell produced a goal and an assist and Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust also scored for the Penguins, who lost for the first time in regulation this season. Jason Zucker had two assists, and Tristan Jarry made 41 saves.

Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist and Magnus Hellberg made 29 saves as host Ottawa ran its winning streak to four by beating Dallas.
Thomas Chabot, Shane Pinto and Derick Brassard scored Ottawa’s other goals. With Ottawa starting goalie Anton Forsberg injured, Hellberg stopped 29 of 31 shots in his first game since being claimed off waivers from the Seattle Kraken on Oct. 3. The 31-year-old Swede was playing in only his sixth career NHL game, scattered over five seasons.
Joel Kiviranta and Wyatt Johnston scored for the Stars, who took their first regulation loss of the season (4-1-1). Dallas goalie Scott Wedgewood stopped 28 of 32 shots.
Capitals 6, Devils 3
Charlie Lindgren made 38 saves and Washington erupted for four second-period goals to defeat New Jersey in Newark, N.J.
Garnet Hathaway, Nick Jensen and Aliaksei Protas each had a goal and an assist for Washington, which opened a four-game road stretch. Alex Ovechkin scored his third goal of the season, and Lindgren picked up his first win as a Capital.
Nathan Bastian, Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt scored for the Devils. Mackenzie Blackwood made 13 saves over two periods, and former Capital Vitek Vanecek stopped three of four shots in the third period.
Jets 4, Blues 0
Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves for his 29th career shutout as host Winnipeg defeated St. Louis.
Mark Scheifele, Sam Gagner, Morgan Barron and Cole Perfetti scored goals and Josh Morrissey had two assists for the Jets, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Thomas Greiss stopped 39 of 42 shots for the Blues, who took their first loss after a 3-0-0 start to the season.
Hurricanes 3, Canucks 2
Sebastian Aho and Jesper Fast scored in the first 87 seconds of the third period to break a tie, and visiting Carolina went on to defeat winless Vancouver.
Carolina’s Andrei Svechnikov opened the scoring on a first-period power play for his seventh goal of the season, and Frederik Andersen stopped 14 shots.
J.T. Miller scored twice for Vancouver, including a power-play goal in the first period. Thatcher Demko made 36 saves for the Canucks, who were outshot 39-16.
