NHL News: NHL roundup: Kraken top Habs 4 seconds into OT

Brandon Montour had two goals and two assists, and he scored the winner on a breakaway four seconds into overtime as the Seattle Kraken rallied for a 5-4 victory against the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.

Jani Nyman scored in his NHL debut, Eeli Tolvanen and Matty Beniers also tallied and Jordan Eberle added three assists for the Kraken. Joey Daccord made 21 saves as Seattle won for the second time in three games.

Juraj Slafkovsky scored twice for Montreal, and Patrik Laine, who missed the previous two games with the flu, had a goal and an assist. Alex Newhook also tallied, Lane Hutson and captain Nick Suzuki had two assists apiece and Jakub Dobes stopped 30 of 35 shots.

Seattle scored the game’s first two goals, fell behind 4-2, then tied it with a pair of power-play goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation. The Canadiens, who were 6-1-1 in their previous eight games, missed a chance to move into a tie with Columbus for the Eastern Conference’s second and final wild-card playoff spot.

Red Wings 7, Sabres 3

Patrick Kane piled up two goals and three assists and host Detroit snapped a six-game losing streak with a win over Buffalo.

Marco Kasper supplied two goals and an assist, while Alex DeBrincat had a goal and three assists for the Red Wings. Vladimir Tarasenko and Moritz Seider also scored, and Dylan Larkin added three assists. Petr Mrazek, making his first start since being acquired from Chicago, made 23 saves.

Tage Thompson and Zach Benson each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo, and Josh Norris also scored. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 22 shots.

Canucks 4, Flames 3 (SO)

Conor Garland’s goal clinched a shootout in a comeback victory for Vancouver over host Calgary.

Elias Pettersson had a goal and an assist in regulation and also scored Vancouver’s first goal of the shootout. Pius Suter and Jake DeBrusk added goals and Kevin Lankinen made 20 saves through overtime and three of four in the shootout as the Canucks snapped a two-game skid.

Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice, then notched the Flames’ only goal in the shootout. Nazem Kadri collected one goal and one assist, and Dustin Wolf stopped 28 shots. MacKenzie Weegar recorded a pair of assists.

Utah 3, Ducks 2

Dylan Guenther had a goal and an assist for the Utah Hockey Club in a win against Anaheim in Salt Lake City.

Jack McBain and Alexander Kerfoot also scored and Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves for Utah, which ran its point streak to four games (2-0-2) and moved within two points of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Alex Killorn and Mason McTavish scored and Ville Husso made 36 saves in his team debut for the Ducks, who are 1-4-0 in their past five games.
