Jaccob Slavin finished off a tic-tac-toe play for a goal 23 seconds into overtime Thursday to give the visiting Carolina Hurricanes their seventh straight win, 4-3 over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The result allowed Carolina to tie the longest point streak in franchise history, 13 games. The Hurricanes, who are on an 11-0-2 run, also registered a point in 13 consecutive games in the 2016-17 and 2020-21 seasons.
Martin Necas, Jalen Chatfield and Jordan Staal also scored, Dylan Coghlan had two assists and Antti Raanta made 24 saves for the Hurricanes.
Sidney Crosby, Brock McGinn and Bryan Rust scored for the Penguins, who had won eight of nine. Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry made 32 saves.
Kings 4, Flames 3 (OT)
Adrian Kempe scored at 3:22 of overtime to lift Los Angeles past visiting Calgary. Kempe finished off a two-on-one rush with Viktor Arvidsson to give the Kings their fourth straight win, matching their best streak of the season.
Blake Lizotte and Gabriel Vilardi each had a goal and an assist, Phillip Danault also scored and Pheonix Copley made 27 saves in his fifth straight start for the Kings.
Jonathan Huberdeau, Tyler Toffoli and Dillon Dube scored while Dan Vladar made 28 saves for the Flames, who are 2-2-4 in their past eight games.
Capitals 3, Senators 2 (OT)
Marcus Johansson scored at 2:04 of overtime to lift visiting Washington past Ottawa.
Alex Ovechkin, who had two assists, registered six shots to give him 6,211 in his career, passing Ray Bourque (6,209) for the most in NHL history. Evgeny Kuznetsov had a goal and an assist and Sonny Milano scored for the Capitals, who have won eight of nine games. Darcy Kuemper, playing his first game since sustaining an upper-body injury on Dec. 3, made 23 saves.
Alex DeBrincat and Drake Batherson scored for the Senators, who have lost three straight (0-2-1). Cam Talbot made 37 saves.
Canucks 6, Kraken 5 (SO)
Elias Pettersson had a five-point night and scored the winner in a shootout as Vancouver defeated visiting Seattle.
Pettersson — who had missed the previous two games, both losses, with an illness — had two goals and three assists. Andrei Kuzmenko added a goal and two assists for the Canucks, who never led in regulation. Lane Pederson had a goal and an assist and Brock Boeser also tallied. Spencer Martin made 31 saves.
Daniel Sprong scored twice and Oliver Bjorkstrand had a goal and an assist for the second-year Kraken, who are 0-5-1 all-time against their Pacific Division rivals.
Sharks 5, Wild 2
Erik Karlsson had a goal and three assists and James Reimer made 24 saves to lead San Jose to a victory over visiting Minnesota. It was the third four-point game of the season for Karlsson, who leads all NHL defensemen with 46 points.
Timo Meier had a goal and an assist and Noah Gregor, Oskar Lindblom and Kevin Labanc also scored goals for San Jose, which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello scored goals for the Wild, who had their season-best, six-game winning streak end. Filip Gustavsson stopped 20 of 24 shots.
Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 3
William Nylander had a goal and two assists and Toronto held on to defeat visiting Philadelphia.
Mitchell Marner added a goal and an assist, and Calle Jarnkrok and Michael Bunting also scored for the Maple Leafs, who won their second game in a row. Ilya Samsonov stopped 16 shots.
Tony DeAngelo, Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee scored for the Flyers. Travis Konecny posted two assists, DeAngelo added an assist and Carter Hart made 30 saves.
Bruins 3, Jets 2
Nick Foligno scored with 8:52 left in the third period to cap a two-point night as Boston rallied from two goals down to beat visiting Winnipeg.
Foligno and David Pastrnak each had a goal and an assist and Jake DeBrusk also lit the lamp for Boston, which is 5-0-1 in its past six games and 18-0-2 on home ice this season. Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves for the win.
Mark Scheifele and Jansen Harkins netted the Jets’ goals. Connor Hellebuyck returned from a two-game absence caused by a non-COVID illness, and he stopped 36 shots.
Rangers 5, Islanders 3
Kaapo Kakko scored the tiebreaking goal with 2:47 remaining in the third period as the New York Rangers ended a five-game home losing streak to the rival New York Islanders.
The Rangers won for the eighth time in nine games overall and erased a trio of one-goal deficits. Artemi Panarin, Julien Gauthier, Barclay Goodrow and Vincent Trocheck also scored for the Rangers, who got 15 saves from Igor Shesterkin.
Anders Lee, Barzal and Alexander Romanov scored for the Islanders, who lost for the first time in 12 games when carrying a lead into the third. The Islanders also fell to 3-6-2 in their past 11 contests. Ilya Sorokin stopped 29 shots.
