Matt Duchene scored the go-ahead goal after tallying an earlier assist as the Dallas Stars rallied for a 5-4 win against the visiting Ottawa Senators on Friday.
Stars goalie Jake Oettinger allowed two goals on two shots before leaving the game with a lower-body injury. Scott Wedgewood made 25 saves in relief for Dallas, which has won three of its past four games.
While Dallas coach Pete DeBoer had no update on Oettinger’s injury after the game, he said the goalie would not make the trip to St. Louis for Saturday night’s game with the Blues.
Drake Batherson had two goals, Jakob Chychrun had three assists and Tim Stutzle had two assists for the Senators, who have lost four of five and are 3-7-0 in their past 10. Anton Forsberg made 19 saves.
Travis Hamonic gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead at 1:16 of the first period. He collected a Chychrun shot that went wide of the net along the right wall for a shot short side that deflected off the leg of Dallas defenseman Esa Lindell and past a screened Oettinger.
Batherson made it 2-0 at 2:51 on the Senators’ second shot on goal. His attempt from inside the left circle was blocked, but he picked up his own rebound and took it to the inner side of the circle to beat Oettinger.
Roope Hintz found an uncovered Joe Pavelski at the front of the net on the power play to cut it to 2-1 at 11:46.
Josh Norris extended the lead to 3-1 at 13:20. Claude Giroux drove to the net and was denied by Wedgewood, but a trailing Norris drove to the net and poked in the loose puck.
The Stars responded 10 seconds later.
Lindell took a pass from Duchene high in the zone and carried it to the left circle, beating Forsberg off the far post and in to narrow it to 3-2, where the game stood after the first period.
Batherson, on the doorstep, lifted his own rebound over Wedgewood to make it 4-2 at 4:54 of the second period.
Thomas Harley went coast-to-coast and scored short-handed off a backhand at the right side of the net to narrow it to 4-3 at 11:21.
Miro Heiskanen’s shot from the inner edge of the left circle tied it 4-4 at 7:33 of the third period, and Duchene put the Stars ahead 5-4 at 8:17 when his backhand pass attempt toward the front of the net went off Norris’ stick and into the net.
Senators forward Mathieu Joseph left the game after the first period with a lower-body injury.
