NHL News: Maple Leafs G Matt Murray (adductor) out at least 4 weeks

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without their top goaltender for the foreseeable future, as Matt Murray is expected to miss at least four weeks with an adductor injury.

The Maple Leafs acquired Murray from the Ottawa Senators over the summer. The two-time Stanley Cup champion made 19 saves in a 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Wednesday’s season opener and was expected to start Saturday against the Senators.

However, he exited early from Saturday’s morning skate and was placed on long-term injured reserve later in the day.

“He’s put in a lot of work and he’s been healthy all the way through the offseason, training camp, preseason,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “He’s put in a lot of work and hasn’t missed a second and been feeling good all the way through. To that end, it’s disappointing for him (and) obviously disappointing for us.”

Ilya Samsonov started in net against the Senators and made 26 saves in a 3-2 win.
