NHL News: ‘Long wait’ over as Sabres F Jack Quinn set for season debut

Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Quinn will make his return from a ruptured Achilles on Tuesday against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets.

Quinn, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, was injured while training in late June.

“I’m excited to get back out there,” Quinn told reporters Tuesday. “It’s been a long wait.”

Quinn, 22, had 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) in 75 games last season with Buffalo.

At the morning skate Tuesday, Quinn – who will be used on the penalty kill — was at left wing on a line with center Tyson Jost and Victor Olofsson.

“He’s one of our most intelligent players at feel for the game and situations,” Sabres coach Don Granato said. “He can jump right in on that. He will jump in on that. We’ve missed some killers … so with ‘Quinner’ coming back in, yes, we’ll put him there right away.”

In other injury news, forwards Jeff Skinner (upper body) and Zemgus Girgensons (lower body) could return this weekend or soon after.

Skinner, who was injured Wednesday on a hit by Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon, is having a solid season with 12 goals and 22 points in 30 games.

Girgensons, who has missed the last 12 games, has two goals in 20 games this season.
