Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Auston Matthews has been ruled out of Wednesday’s game against the visiting Nashville Predators due to an undisclosed injury.
Matthews scored a goal in 17:29 of ice time during Toronto’s 6-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The reigning Hart Trophy recipient, however, did not participate in practice on Tuesday.
“I would say he is just day-to-day,” coach Sheldon Keefe said of Matthews. “He’s out there putting in lots of work and all that so he’s clearly not too far away. So he’s improving daily, we’ll see where he’s at for (Thursday against the host Detroit Red Wings).”
Matthews, 25, has totaled 47 points (20 goals, 27 assists) while playing in all 41 games this season.
Forward Bobby McMann, 26, will make his NHL debut on Wednesday in place of Matthews.
McMann, 26, was recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
