Quinton Byfield and defenseman Joel Edmundson each collected a goal and an assist, fueling the visiting Los Angeles Kings to a 5-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Kevin Fiala and former Canadien Joel Armia also tallied and Warren Foegele scored into an empty net for the Kings, who have won nine straight games against Montreal dating to the 2021-22 season.

Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves to send Los Angeles to its fourth straight win away from home and extend its road point streak to eight games (6-0-2).

Montreal’s Josh Anderson scored a goal late in the first period and defenseman Lane Hutson notched an assist while playing in his 100th career NHL game.

Sam Montembeault turned aside 21 shots for the Canadiens, who saw their six-game point streak (4-0-2) come to a halt.

Edmundson, who played for Montreal from 2020-23, scored his first goal of the season to forge a 1-1 tie at 1:17 of the second period.

He unleashed a blast from just inside the blue line that beat Montembeault, who inadvertently was screened by Montreal defenseman Jayden Struble.

Byfield converted from the doorstep on a delayed penalty exactly three minutes later before Montembeault paid dearly for his decision against freezing the puck just over one minute later. Montembeault, instead, tapped the puck along to the side of the net where Fiala sent it home to give Los Angeles a 3-1 lead at 5:22 of the second period.

Armia, who played the previous seven seasons with Montreal, stripped Hutson of the puck before moving in and beating Montembeault glove side at 11:08 of the third period.

Jake Evans collected the puck behind his own blue line and skated into the offensive zone before feeding Hutson in the high slot. Hutson deftly slid the puck to Anderson, who one-timed a shot from the left circle that sailed over the glove of Kuemper to open the scoring with 43 seconds remaining in the first period.
