Trevor Moore scored a short-handed goal and also tallied in a shootout as the Los Angeles Kings earned a wild 6-5 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

Moore beat Adin Hill with a wrist shot on the blocker side after Adrian Kempe scored in the first round of the shootout for Los Angeles.

Pavel Dorofeyev, who tallied a hat trick for Vegas, scored in the second round for Vegas, and Anton Forsberg later made a glove save on Mitch Marner to seal the win and snap the Golden Knights’ six-game win streak in season openers.

Jeff Malott scored his first career NHL goal, Andrei Kuzmenko and Quinton Byfield each had a goal and an assist and Brandt Clarke also scored a goal for Los Angeles. The Kings were playing the second game of a back-to-back that began with a 4-1 season-opening home loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday.

Forsberg made 30 saves in his Kings debut.

Dorofeyev notched his third career hat trick. Jack Eichel had a goal and three assists, Ivan Barbashev had a goal and an assist and Marner and Mark Stone added a pair of assists for defending Pacific Division champion Vegas. Adin Hill finished with 21 saves.

Down by two midway through the third period, the Kings rallied to tie it 5-5. Moore tallied on a short-handed breakaway at 11:39, and Clarke buried a shot while driving to the net at 14:00.

Los Angeles, blanked for the first 55 minutes by the Avalanche on Tuesday, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 11:57. The Kings got a power-play goal from Kuzmenko, who roofed a wrist shot from the slot, and a breakaway goal from Byfield, who intercepted a pass by Jeremy Lauzon near center ice and then broke in and backhanded a shot past Hill’s glove side.

Vegas cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 2:10 mark of the second period when Dorofeyev intercepted a Cody Ceci pass in the neutral zone and then broke in and clanged a wrist shot in off the right post.

The Kings made it 3-1 when a one-timer by Joel Armia from the high slot caromed in off Malott stationed in front of the crease.

Vegas rallied to tie it with two sharp-angled power-play goals by Dorofeyev in the span of 1:42 late in the second period, both from the bottom of the right circle off Stone crossing passes. The first came after Alex Turcotte picked up a five-minute boarding penalty and the second came on a five-on-three power play when Alex Laferriere joined Turcotte in the penalty box for tripping Eichel.

Eichel then gave the Golden Knights their first lead of the night at the 5:06 mark of the third period, one-timing a pass from Marner pass past Forsberg’s blocker side. Barbashev made it 5-3 a few minutes later when he tapped in an Eichel crossing pass inside the left post.
