Jake DeBrusk had a hat trick, including the game-winner with one minute left in overtime, and the visiting Vancouver Canucks defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

DeBrusk also scored two power-play goals in a 43-second span early in the second period. Pius Suter and Erik Brannstrom had the other Canucks goals, and Kevin Lankinen made 27 saves.

DeBrusk scored the game-winner on a shot from the left side, assisted by Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. They had three assists apiece.

Jonatan Berggren, Alex DeBrincat, Michael Rasmussen and Vladimir Tarasenko scored for Detroit. Berggren added an assist, and Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin and Marco Kasper had two assists each.

Detroit’s starting goaltender, Cam Talbot, departed in the second period with a lower-body injury. He was replaced by Ville Husso, who made 15 saves.

Lankinen is 10-0-0 on the road this season, surpassing Glenn Hall (1965-66) and Talbot (2023-24) for the most road wins to start a season in NHL history. Talbot played for Los Angeles last season.

Detroit scored first with 6:03 left in the first period.

Erik Gustafsson took a shot from the left point, which Lankinen saved. The rebound came to Berggren, who snapped it past the goaltender from the right circle. Kasper was credited with the second assist.

The Canucks benefitted from a 5-on-3 power play spanning the first and second periods to take the lead. DeBrusk tipped in a rebound of Pettersson’s shot 23 seconds into the period. Hughes picked up the second assist.

At 5-on-4, DeBrusk scored again at 1:06 of the period on a rebound of Hughes’ shot.

The Red Wings tied it at 2-all just after a Vancouver penalty expired. DeBrincat scored from the left circle with Larkin and Raymond collecting assists at 6:38 of the period.

Suter scored on a breakaway late in the period, beating Husso on the stick side, to give his club a 3-2 advantage.

Rasmussen scored a power-play goal during a scramble in front of the crease at 2:24 of the third.

Detroit took the lead at 4:50 of the period as Tarasenko scored from the left circle, but Brannstrom tied it with 3:20 remaining on a slap shot from the left side.
