Scott Laughton had one goal and an assist to lift the Philadelphia Flyers over the host Washington Capitals 3-1 on Saturday.

James van Riemsdyk and Wade Allison each added one goal for the Flyers, who have won seven of eight. The Flyers also won their fifth straight on the road.

Flyers goaltender Carter Hart made 39 saves. Travis Konecny had his career-high 10-game points streak come to an end.

Alex Ovechkin scored the lone goal for the Capitals. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 22 shots.

It was a defensive battle midway through the first period with tight checking and few scoring opportunities for either team.

Lars Eller was whistled for tripping Philadelphia’s Zack MacEwen at 13:05 of the first. Just 11 seconds later, Laughton redirected a shot from Tony DeAngelo and scored on the power play for a 1-0 lead.

Ovechkin equalized at 17:56 when he pounced on a rebound and sent a backhand past Hart for his 30th goal of the season.

The Flyers went ahead 2-1 at 4:51 of the second when Owen Tippett sent a crisp pass to a wide open van Riemsdyk for the relatively easy tap-in.

Allison connected at 5:40 for a 3-1 advantage.

Washington’s Tom Wilson and Dmitry Orlov each had solid scoring chances on a power play midway through the second but were unable to capitalize.

The Capitals came out aggressive in the third and ripped six shots on goal in the first five minutes.

T.J. Oshie and Konecny became entangled behind the net at 8:39 and each player was sent off for roughing.

The Flyers were awarded a power play at 14:35 when Laughton was tripped by Marcus Johansson. Washington killed off the penalty despite the Flyers buzzing around the net.

Kuemper was pulled for an extra skater at 17:38 but had to come back in temporarily following a penalty. Ovechkin was denied twice when Kuemper came out again in the final minute.
