Matt Coronato scored the tying goal late in the third period and the winner seven seconds into overtime to as visiting Calgary Flames beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Tuesday.

Right off the opening faceoff of the extra frame, Coronato took the puck away from Nick Suzuki, then skated into the circle and fired it home for his first career overtime winner in three NHL seasons.

Coronato also scored the equalizer for the Flames at 17:14 of the third period, on another shot from the circle through traffic. He increased his season goal total to four and his career total to seven.

Connor Zary notched the Flames’ other goal, and Dustin Wolf stopped 21 of 23 shots for his fourth win in six starts this season. Calgary posted its second victory in three games.

The loss extended Montreal’s losing streak to four games (0-3-1).

Joel Armia had a short-handed goal and an assist for the Habs, and Brendan Gallagher scored a power-play goal.

Sam Montembeault stopped 33 of 36 shots, doing his best against Calgary’s increasing pressure. The Flames outshot the Canadiens by a 26-8 margin after the first period.

Despite the shots deficit, the Canadiens had some hard luck in the form of four shots hitting the goalpost. Gallagher also had another seeming goal overturned in the third period, as a video review revealed that Josh Anderson was barely offside in the leadup to the play.

A scramble in front of Montreal’s net resulted in Calgary’s first goal 4:20 into the second period. Daniil Miromanov’s shot was blocked by Emil Heineman, and the puck also seemed to deflect off downed Flames forward Nazem Kadri, leaving Zary open to convert the loose puck for his third goal of the season.

The Canadiens got the equalizer 16:23 into the second period, as Armia’s pass found a wide-open Gallagher in front of the net. The goal was Gallagher’s fifth.

At 5:56 of the third period, Montreal took the lead on a short-handed goal. Armia and Jake Evans broke out on a two-on-one chance during Calgary’s power play, leading to Armia’s second goal of the season.

Calgary forward Anthony Mantha didn’t return to the ice after sustaining a lower-body injury late in the first period.
