Connor McDavid scored twice while Leon Draisaitl and Mattias Ekholm both collected one goal and one assist as the host Edmonton Oilers rode a five-goal second period to a 6-3 victory over the red-hot Utah Mammoth on Tuesday.

Isaac Howard and Ty Emberson also scored for the Oilers. Goaltender Stuart Skinner made 20 saves.

Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard notched three assists while Adam Henrique and Jake Walman collected two helpers each.

Logan Cooley, JJ Peterka and Barrett Hayton scored for the Mammoth, who blew a two-goal lead and saw their winning streak end at seven games.

Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka stopped 19 shots in the final outing of a four-game road trip.

Trailing 2-0 at the first intermission, the Oilers received a much-needed spark when Ekholm put them on the board 22 seconds into the second period with a rocket of a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle for his first goal of the season.

Howard tied the clash at 3:13 of the period, tapping home a quick pass from Henrique for his second of the season.

After Hayton put the Mammoth ahead again five minutes later with his second of the year, Draisaitl again pulled Edmonton even at 13:33 by burying a long rebound chance for his eighth goal of the season and fifth in six contests.

Emberson gave the Oilers the lead 37 seconds later, netting his first goal of the season when a long shot banked off the end boards to him in the right circle to covert.

McDavid made it a 5-3 game with 2:04 remaining in the middle frame. He finished a perfect give-and-go with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the slot for just his second goal of the season.

McDavid’s empty-net goal late in regulation rounded out the scoring.

Utah was in a great position to continue its run. Cooley opened the scoring just before the midway point of the first period with his team-leading eighth goal of the season, all of which have come in the first period, and Peterka doubled the lead at 17:45 when he buried a shot off the rush for his fourth goal of the campaign.
