Elias Pettersson converted on the last attempt of a shootout to allow the Vancouver Canucks to salvage the last game of a road trip with a 4-3 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday at Raleigh, N.C.

The Canucks rallied from a two-goal hole.

Ex-Carolina defenseman Ethan Bear’s goal with 2:08 to play in the second period put the Canucks on the board. J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser notched third-period goals, with Boeser’s coming with just 17 seconds left to play.

The Canucks went 1-4-0 on a five-game road trip. Goalie Collin Delia stopped 29 shots. Andrei Kuzmenko also converted in the shootout for Vancouver.

Paul Stastny and Jordan Martinook scored in the first period and Sebastian Aho had a third-period goal for the Hurricanes.

Carolina goalie Pyotr Kochetkov made 29 saves. The rookie is 0-3-1 following a Dec. 20 victory against the New Jersey Devils.

Boeser scored after the Canucks pulled their goalie to extend the game beyond regulation. Boeser knocked in a rebound for his ninth goal of the season.

Stastny notched his third goal of the season 2:25 into the game, taking Andrei Svechnikov’s cross-ice pass and blasting a shot past Delia.

With 34 seconds left in the opening period, Martinook slapped in a rebound of his own shot to stretch Carolina’s edge to 2-0.

Bear scored his goal when he had open ice. It was his third goal of the season, coming a period after he received in-arena recognition as a former Hurricane coming back to play in Carolina.

The shots on goal were nearly even through two periods at 19-18 in favor of the Hurricanes.

Miller tied the game on his effort with 12:25 remaining in the third period. After the Canucks entered the zone, Miller put an initial shot off the post and then retrieved the rebound and converted for his 17th goal of the season. He has four goals in the last six games.

The Hurricanes played for the first time this season without captain Jordan Staal, who missed the game for personal reasons.
