Dylan Larkin scored two power-play goals in the second period and the host Detroit Red Wings held on for a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

Larkin, the Red Wings’ captain, has five power-play goals this season. Cam Talbot made 31 saves for Detroit, which ended a three-game losing streak.

Alex Tuch scored a short-handed goal for Buffalo, which has lost three straight games. The Sabres were playing for the second consecutive night after losing 4-3 to the New York Islanders on Friday.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 21 saves for the Sabres, who defeated the Red Wings 5-3 at home a week earlier.

Detroit managed to pull out the victory despite getting outshot for the eighth consecutive game.

Buffalo outshot Detroit 12-7 in the first period and scored the only goal during the frame.

With teammate Beck Malenstyn in the penalty box for holding, Tuch scored his second short-handed goal this season to give Buffalo the lead at 11:39 of the period. It was also the first short-handed goal allowed by Detroit this season.

Tuch stole the puck from Larkin at center ice, resulting in a breakaway. He ripped a shot from the right side to beat Talbot.

Detroit grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the second.

With Buffalo’s Owen Power in the penalty box for cross-checking, the Red Wings scored a power-play goal to tie the score at 7:49 of the period. From the right circle, Patrick Kane tipped the puck toward Larkin, who ripped a one-timer past Luukkonen.

Larkin’s second power-play goal of the period came after Jack Quinn was whistled for delay of game. Larkin lifted a shot over Luukkonen’s left shoulder off a feed from Alex DeBrincat. Lucas Raymond also picked up an assist on Larkin’s seventh goal of the season.
