NHL News: Ducks rally, pull off wild 7-6 OT win over Sharks

Leo Carlsson scored 46 seconds into overtime off a 2-on-1 to give the visiting Anaheim Ducks a 7-6 comeback victory against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.

The Ducks had pulled Petr Mrazek for an extra skater and Chris Kreider scored a loose puck off a rush to tie it 6-6 with 51 seconds left in regulation.

Kreider and Cutter Gauthier each had two goals, Carlsson had a goal and two assists, Beckett Sennecke had a goal and an assist, Mason McTavish had three assists and Mrazek made 17 saves for the Ducks, who lost their season opener 3-1 at the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.

Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith each had three assists for the Sharks, who lost their season opener 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.

Adam Gaudette had a goal and an assist; Tyler Toffoli, Ryan Reaves, Mario Ferraro, John Klingberg and Jeff Skinner also scored; and Yaroslav Askarov made 36 saves for San Jose.

Toffoli scored on a one-timer from the top of the right circle during a delayed penalty to give San Jose a 1-0 lead at 3:40 of the first period.

San Jose stretched the lead to 2-0 at 11:12 when Reaves beat Mrazek on the shortside on a drive to the net.

Gauthier scored 41 seconds later with a wrist shot from the high to trim it 2-1.

Anaheim went on its second power play and Sennecke scored on a rebound while parked in front of the crease to tie it 2-2 at 15:14.

Sennecke, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, has two goals and an assist in his first two NHL games.

Ferraro scored off Smith’s short pass following a rebound to give San Jose a 3-2 lead at 5:21 of the second.

About a minute later, Ducks forward Alex Killorn scored on a breakaway to tie it 3-3.

Klingberg scored on a slap shot from the high slot while on a 5-on-3 power play to move the Sharks back in front 4-3 midway through the middle period.

San Jose went back on the power play and Gaudette scored on a one-timer from the right circle to make it 5-3 at 17:14.

Anaheim trimmed the lead to 5-4 with 31 seconds left in the second period when Kreider scored on a tap-in while on a power play.

Skinner spun and scored his second goal of the season to make it 6-4 at 5:34 of the third period.
