Mason McTavish scored the go-ahead goal with 3:40 remaining and the host Anaheim Ducks used a four-goal outburst in the third period to earn a 4-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday to extend their winning streak to six games.
The defending champion Golden Knights saw their 12-game point streak to start the season come to an end while losing in regulation for the first time.
Sam Carrick scored a pair of goals for the Ducks, including the game-tying score just past the midway point of the third period. He later added an insurance goal into an empty net with just over a minute remaining.
Adam Henrique also had a marker for Anaheim and John Gibson had 30 saves after missing a game with an upper-body injury.
McTavish took a feed from Frank Vatrano from behind the Golden Knights’ goal and scored past sprawling Vegas goalie Logan Thompson at 16:20 of the third period for his sixth goal of the season. Vatrano had two assists on Sunday.
Ivan Barbashev and Jack Eichel each scored goals for the Golden Knights, who earned a 4-1 victory over the Ducks last month. Eichel added an assist, while Thompson had 19 saves, getting blitzed in the final period when the Ducks scored four times on six shots.
Vegas’ William Karlsson saw his point streak end at nine games in the loss against his former team.
Barbashev gave Vegas a 1-0 lead at 8:51 of the opening period when he redirected a sharp pass from Eichel for his fourth marker of the season.
Eichel delivered his third goal in two nights when he flipped a wrist shot into the roof of the goal at 13:43 of the second period. It was Eichel’s sixth goal this season.
Gibson stopped an Eichel short-handed breakaway early in the third period and the Ducks converted on the man advantage, with Henrique scoring on a spinning shot from the slot at 1:38.
Carrick tied it 2-2 at 10:55 of the third period after the Golden Knights turned over the puck in the Ducks’ zone.
