Trevor Zegras scored the decisive goal of a shootout as the visiting Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Monday.

Philadelphia finished 2-for-2 in the shootout, as Matvei Michkov also succeeded. Toronto went 1-for-3, getting a goal from William Nylander before Flyers goalie Dan Vladar turned aside efforts by Auston Matthews and Max Domi.

Nylander’s goal late in the third period tied the game shortly after Noah Cates gave Philadelphia the lead.

Christian Dvorak also scored for the Flyers, who have won three in a row. Vladar made 29 saves through regulation and overtime.

Dakota Joshua tallied for the Maple Leafs, who are 0-3-1 since the Olympic break. Anthony Stolarz made 23 saves.

Joshua scored from the left circle of 15:22 of the first period. Matias Maccelli won the puck in the corner after a dump-in and passed to Joshua.

Matthews clanked a shot off a goal post 1:13 later.

Dvorak jammed home a power-play goal at 18:38 of the first to tie the game at 1 after the Flyers swarmed the net. Brandon Carlo was off for holding.

Stolarz maintained the tie when he stopped Nicolas Delauriers’ shot from the left circle at 12:43 of the second period after a Toronto giveaway. It was Philadelphia’s best chance of the period.

The Maple Leafs were the better team in the goalless middle period with the Flyers often resorting to flipping the puck out of their own end.

The Maple Leafs went on the power play 40 seconds into the third period but were held to one shot on goal. Cates hit the left post with a shot while killing the penalty.

With the teams even, Philadelphia’s Travis Sanheim thought he had scored when his slap shot rang off the right post at 4:04, but the puck didn’t go in.

The Flyers were doing better at moving the puck out of their own end and setting up chances in the Toronto zone.

Philadelphia applied pressure that led to Cates scoring from the left circle on a pass from Bobby Brink at 14:42 of the third.

Nylander tied the game from the left circle during a power play at 17:30. Denver Barkey was off for tripping.

Philadelphia’s Travis Konecny (upper-body injury) did not play.
