Cole Perfetti had a goal and two assists, Connor Hellebuyck produced a 19-save shutout and the Winnipeg Jets beat the visiting Minnesota Wild for the eighth straight time, cruising to a 5-0 victory on Saturday night.

The NHL-leading Jets moved five points ahead of the Wild for the top spot in the Central Division. Winnipeg earned its third win in four games, while Minnesota took its fourth straight loss.

Neal Pionk registered a goal and an assist, and Nikolaj Ehlers, Morgan Barron and Vladislav Namestnikov also tallied for Winnipeg.

Jesper Wallstedt made 19 saves for Minnesota.

The Jets wasted no time capitalizing on their league-best power play to open the scoring. Ehlers found the back of the net just six seconds into Minnesota’s first minor penalty, quickly shoveling a pass into the net at 6:51 of the first period.

With 2:06 left in the first, Wallstedt made the initial save on Alex Iafallo off a rush but left the crease without the puck, allowing Barron to tuck it into the open net for a 2-0 lead.

The opening 20 minutes showcased the Central Division rivalry’s intensity, with six penalties called in total.

Winnipeg extended the advantage to 3-0 at 5:19 of the second period, when Pionk hammered a one-timer past Wallstedt just 14 seconds into a power play.

Minnesota’s Jonas Brodin committed a turnover early in the third period, allowing the Jets to extend their lead to 4-0 at 2:07. Perfetti was the recipient of the giveaway, snatching the puck in the slot and burying it.

Things got worse for Minnesota as the Jets went ahead 5-0, when Namestnikov tipped in the game’s final goal off a shot from the point by Pionk at the 7:36 mark of the third.

The Wild fell to 0-7-1 against the Jets dating back to a defeat on April 11, 2023. Prior to that contest, Minnesota had won 12 of the teams’ previous 16 regular-season matchups.
