NHL News: Capitals sign F Nicolas Aube-Kubel to extension, recall pair

Forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel signed a one-year, $1.225 million contract extension with the Washington Capitals on Friday.

The Capitals also recalled defensemen Vincent Iorio and Gabriel Carlsson from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League on Friday and lent defenseman Dylan McIlrath to Hershey.

Aube-Kubel, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 5. He has eight points (two goals, six assists) in 36 games with Toronto and Washington this season.

In 205 games with the Capitals, Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Flyers, Aube-Kubel has 58 points (23 goals, 35 assists). He was selected in the second round by the Flyers in the 2014 NHL draft.

Iorio, 20, has 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) in 51 games with Hershey this season. The Capitals selected him in the second round of the 2021 draft.

Carlsson, 26, a first-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2015 draft, has 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) in 47 games with Hershey this season. He had 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 75 games with the Blue Jackets from 2016-22..

McIlrath, 30, has one assist in six games with the Capitals this season. A first-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2010 draft, McIrath has six points (three goals, three assists) in 72 games with the Capitals, Rangers, Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings.
