The Vancouver Canucks and forward Jake DeBrusk agreed to a seven-year contract worth $38.5 million amid a slew of signings.

Prior to free agency, the winger spent his entire seven-year career with the Boston Bruins.

“Jake will be a great addition to our top six and gives us another offensive option up front,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a release. “He is a smart two-way player who plays with pace. He isn’t afraid to go to the tough areas of the ice and uses his strong motor and determination to drive play.”

DeBrusk, 27, accumulated 266 career points (138 goals, 128 assists) since being selected No. 14 overall in the 2015 draft by the Bruins.

On a busy day to open free agency, the Canucks also signed forward Kiefer Sherwood, defenseman Derek Forbort, and forward Danton Heinen.

Sherwood, 29, spent the past two seasons in Nashville and is coming off a personal best campaign: 68 games played, 10 goals, 17 assists. His deal is for two years and $3 million.

“We saw first hand in the playoffs how tough Kiefer is to play against,” said Allvin. “We like his quickness, tenacity, and the way he competes in all situations. Adding another physical player to the mix will work well with the way our forward group is currently constructed.”

Heinen’s deal is for two years and $4.5 million. The 28-year-old tallied 36 points last season for Boston and has 212 career points (87 goals, 125 assists) with three teams, including the Bruins twice. Boston selected him in the fourth round of the 2014 draft.

Forbort, 32, spent the last three seasons in Boston. The blueliner has 95 points (17 goals, 78 assists) in 496 career games with four teams, most notably the Los Angeles Kings (2015-20), who selected him No. 15 overall in the 2010 draft. His is a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.
